CAT means Common Admission Test. It is conducted by IIMs every year as an entrance exam for Management Graduate Courses. IIMs are the leading management institutes in India registered under the Government of India. These institutes also help in giving adequate consultancy for various management and business jobs.

CAT 2019 Exam Dates
The official notification for CAT 2019 will be released in the month of July along with the exam dates. Candidates are given 1 month period to apply for CAT exam. Here is the schedule for CAT 2019 application form availability, exam dates, and the announcement of results.

In order to be eligible for CAT 2019, an aspirant must be a graduate degree holder in any stream. Candidates appearing in the final year/semester of their degree program can also apply for CAT 2019. They should have also scored the required percentage in their graduation degree. The category-wise percentage requirement for CAT 2019 is explained in the table below:

According to the latest exam pattern followed last year by CAT, it is a computer-based online test for three hours duration. It has three sections carrying 100 marks in total. The questions are asked in MCQ form.

It is a section-wise bifurcation which was followed by CAT examining authorities in the year 2017.
Distribution of marks
Marks are distributed according to the accuracy level a candidate follows i.e for every correct response 4 marks are awarded and for wrong responses, there is a penalty of one mark.
Sectional Cut-off
Aspirants must secure minimum marks in each section depending upon the cut-off of the exam held in a particular year.
Criteria for Group Discussion/Personal Interview call
Candidates securing a minimum total cut off will be called for Group Discussion/Personal Interview ( GD/PI) from IIMs. Different IIMs follow different parameters to shortlist the candidates for GD/PI depending upon its regional performance.

CAT 2019 Participating Colleges
CAT is conducted mainly for admission to MBA/PGDM programs offered at 20 IIMs. Apart from IIMs, other top management institutes like FMS, MDI, NTIE, SP Jain, Department of Management Studies at IITs, Manipal University, ITM Delhi, Chandigarh University and over 115 management B-schools also accept CAT score as a qualifying criteria for their management programs. The cut-off percentile for IIMs and other top institutes may be above 90 percentile.

Management Aptitude Test (MAT) is a regular test being conducted since 1988 to help Business Schools (B-Schools) to select candidates for admission to MBA and allied courses. MAT Exam is approved by the Govt. of India under the ministry of HRD. It is conducte4d at the national level. MAT score can be considered either by national or international B-School as admission criteria. India has more than 600 B-Schools where MAT score is considered for their admissions.
It is conducted 4 times in a year in the months of February, May, September, and December. It is conducted both online and offline. The difference between the test dates of online and offline MAT test is 6 days.
Eligibility criteria for MAT Exam
- The candidates applying for MAT Exam must fulfill the following eligibility criteria:
- The candidate must have a Bachelor’s Degree of minimum 3 years or equivalent from a recognized University. Those appearing in final year can also apply. Otherwise, the candidate must possess a professional degree like CA/CS/ICWA.
- Calculation of marks will be done on the basis of the practice followed by the relevant University/Institution.
- If Grading or CGPA system is adopted even then the calculation will be done on the basis of the
- Criteria followed by the relevant University/Institution.
- The candidates in their final year of graduation, who also apply for MAT 2018, if shortlisted by a Management Institute on the basis of their MAT 2018 score, shall be allowed to join the Program provisionally, on the condition that they submit a certificate from the Principal/Registrar of their Institution, stating that the candidate has fulfilled all requirements for obtaining the Bachelor’s Degree/equivalent qualification, by the date of issuing of the certificate.
Exam Pattern of MAT Exam
MAT Exam comprises of 200 questions, with 40 questions in each section. It has 5 sections having objective type question to be solved in 150 minutes. There is sectional time limit allotted in MAT Exam according to the table given below:
